Imphal, February 01 2022:
A group of suspected cadres of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) allegedly thrashed two village chiefs for supporting NPP candidate Lunkhopao alias Apao of Chandel AC, vandalised the vehicle they were travelling in and robbed their mobile phones.
Notably, UKLF is a signatory of Suspension of Operation pact with the Union and the State Governments.
Speaking to media persons at the NPP Chandel office at MG Avenue today, Lunkhopao Haokip said that the incident took place on a stretch between K Savumpa and Songjang which connects New Samtal and Tengnoupal on January 29 .
Saying that a complaint has been registered at Molcham police station through CEO, Manipur to Election Commission of India, he added that no tangible action, however, has been taken up so far.
Lunkhopao continued that Chahkap chief Jamsei Haokip (77) and Khengjoy chief Thongkhothang Haokip (63) along with two other persons went to meet locals of five villages last Saturday on a Mahindra Scorpio bearing Manipur registration number.

Claiming that the two village chiefs were assaulted by UKLF cadres on their return journey by separating them from the driver and the co-passenger, the NPP candidate alleged that the vehicle was also badly damaged by them (UKLF cadres) .
Further stating the mobile phones of all the four persons have also been snatched, Lunkhopao alleged that the offence was carried out under the instruction of a candidate.
Saying that all the cadres of UKLF should be stationed in a designated camp at the time of election as the outfit is a signatory of SoO, the NPP candidate maintained that a copy of the memorandum sent to UPF convenor by SP of CID (SB) in this regard is with him.
These UKLF cadres are roaming freely and targeting his party workers, he complained and added that the outfit also banned him from contesting the election.
Saying that he has every right to contest the election, Lunkhopao asserted that threatening his fundamental right is akin to challenging the Constitution of this country.
He then urged the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
It is also very disappointing to learn that Kuki Chiefs Association (KCA) announced to boycott all candidates other than the BJP candidate in the election, he rued and asked what right or strength has the KCA to boycott him.
Is this CSO working under the command of a rebel group, he asked.
