Ukhrul DEO briefs media on upcoming polls

All possible steps are being taken to ensure free and fair conduct of the 12th Assembly Elections in the district, District Election Officer (DEO), Ukhrul Krishna Kumar said during a press meet held at DC conference hall on Tuesday.
Briefing media persons, he said that elections being the biggest festival of democracy, no efforts are being spared to ensure conduct of the upcoming polls in strict compliance with the ECI guidelines.
He also informed that in view of the current pandemic situation, the department is taking every possible step to ensure compliance of appropriate Covid-19 protocols.
The DEO said that as directed by the ECI, the department has scheduled all the poll events for the upcoming polls in the district which falls under the second phase of the elections.
Two assembly constituencies in the district namely 44-Ukhrul and 45-Chingai will be going to the polls on March 3.He said that issuing of notification has been scheduled for February 4 and last date of filling nomination will be on February 11.Scrutiny of nominations has been fixed on February 14 and last date of withdrawal of candidature is February 16, he said.
He further said that counting of votes will take place on March 10 and that the entire election process will have to be completed before March 12.Krishna Kumar said that as announced by the ECI, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force since the announcement of the election schedule on January 8.He appealed to all political parties and stakeholders to comply with the MCC till the election process is completed.
He informed that ECI has developed a mobile application Voter Helpline to facilitate voters in all election related matters and also to help them lodge complaints against any violations of MCC.
ECI has also introduced another mobile application PwD app to facilitate Persons with Disabilities, he informed.
To help voters understand and make proper choice of their candidates, ECI has also developed an android based mobile application Know Your Candidate where the antecedents of all candidates could be easily accessed, he said.
At the same time, the DEO appealed to all the polling personnel and voters to get vaccinated for the safety of everyone in view of the pandemic.
