CANA conference cum sports meet begins

The 57th Conference cum Sports Meet 2022 of Chothe Athourul Ngei Abom (CANA/Chothe Students' Union Manipur) commenced from Monday at Ziontlang village in Chandel district.
The programme which is being held under the theme of 'Youth for Social Change' was opened with a prayer by Chothe Baptist Churches Association executive secretary reverend Dr Hranum Chothe and hoisting of flag by CANA president Zebulun Chothe.
The formal opening function of the six-day event was held on Tuesday with social worker Wango Kohring Victor attending as chief guest and Autonomous District Council Chandel former member Noah Chothe as guest of honour, while Naga Students' Federation (NSF) speaker Brilliantson Kashung, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) general secretary SR Andrew, All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) president Wanglar Thiirtung Monsang, Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC) president Tepamram, Anal Sinnu Ruwl president Sr Khingam, Ziontlang village chief R Youthson Chothe, Purum Chumbang pastor reverend Th John Chothe and social worker Th Kumar Chothe were present as special guests.
The event saw presentation of mementos to various personalities along with dance and music performances.
Speaking on the occasion, CANA president Zebulun Chothe informed that CANA established in 1963 is organising the programme with an aim to encourage Chothe youth and students to participate in sports and other activities so that they become self-confident when stepping out in the world.
The sports meet has also been able to produce noted sportspersons such as national football player Winkle Chothe, he added.
Zebulun Chothe also informed that the meet will include 100-metre race for men and women, relay race, marathon, long jump, high jump, volleyball, men's football, solo competition, debate and extempore speech along Miss Cana pageant.
This year's competition is being participated by student units/clubs from 16 Chothe villages, out of total 19 Chothe villages in Manipur.
The event will be held with strict adherence to Covid-19 SOPs with all participants possessing Covid second dose vaccination certificate while those who are underage possess negative Covid-19 certificate.
The events held in the evening will end by 9 o'clock, he further conveyed.
