Yengkhom Somorjit Singh condoled; EEVFAM, HRA call for an inquiry to probe his accident

Many have condoled the untimely demise of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, Yengkhom Somorjit Singh of Kakching Mayai Leikai who passed away in a road accident near Uningkhong in Thoubal district on January 30 .
Members of the Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) and Human Rights Alert (HRA) held a condolence meeting and observed two minutes silence in honour of the departed soul and shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family.
The members recalled Y Somorjit as a bold and fearless judge who uphold the rule of law without fear or favour and lauded his remarkable orders in the favor of the families of the victim of extrajudicial execution who have been denied justice all through, said a press release by EEVFAM.
Further EEVFAM and HRA have demanded an independent and impartial inquiry be constituted to find out the whole truth behind the accident to ensure that his death is a genuine accident and there is no foul play by vested interests who are affected by his bold judgement.
The two organisations also urged that the inquiry should also probe whether necessary precautions and protocols were observed by the road repairing agency to prevent such unfortunate incidents and demanded that the inquiry report should be made public so that the doubts in the mind of the public is cleared concerning the untimely death of a judicial officer presiding on some of the most sensitive issues.
In remembrance of (Late) Y Somorjit Singh, a prayer meeting was held at the conference hall of All Manipur Judicial Officers' Association today.
As per a press release by AMJOA, the prayer meeting was chaired by Naorem Rajnikanta, Presiding Officer, Revenue Tribunal and vice president of AMJOA in the presence of M Nilachandra, president, AMBA, Judicial Officers and members of the Bar and the attendees prayed that the departed soul may rest in peace.
United Front, Manipur too joined in mourning the untimely demise of Y Somorjit Singh and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
