Imphal, February 01 2022:
A written complaint has been lodged to the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes urging the chairperson to issue directive to relevant authority for making public details of diff erent schemes launched by both Central and state governments for welfare of Scheduled Tribe people residing in hill areas of Manipur.
The complaint was lodged by Waheng -bam Joykumar of Wangkhei Hijam Leikai with commissioner (Hill Affairs & Tribal Development) of the department of tribal development, and director (Hill Affairs & Tribal Development) listed as respondents.
The complaint said that funds, quantity and quality of different schemes launched by the Central and state governments for the ST people of Manipur be uploaded on website as per Section (B) (XII) and XIII of Right to Information Act, 2005 by giving details of beneficiaries including name, address and amount received so that public could be aware of the schemes.
The department takes up different schemes for ST like Family Orientation Programme, social/community development scheme, skill development training scheme, economic development programme and free coaching and scholarship schemes for tribal students.
However, the department does not publicise these schemes in the media and hence many people in remote hill areas are unaware of these schemes.
Development process could not progress in the hills smoothly due to inapt activities of the department; the complaint said and urged the chairperson of the commission to give directive to relevant authority for making public details of different schemes meant for welfare of ST people.
