Imphal, April 12 2022:
The Mao-Imphal Market Coordination Committee organised a thanksgiving ceremony for opening a temporary Mao-Imphal market on April 8 by the government at the market shed located on the eastern side of DMU campus on Tuesday.
Mayang Imphal MLA K Robindro, who was chief guest of the event, said that opening of Mao Keithel in Imphal or at other valley areas has completed seven years and thanked chief minister N Biren Singh for his initiative in opening the temporary market shed.
Manipur is a small state but with many communities settling since time immemorial.
However, opening a single Mao Keithel temporary market shed in Imphal could not bring all communities together and more such Keithels are needed in both hills and valley to bring economic development as well as promote cultural exchange.
He then appealed to CSOs to help in this regard while maintaining that government is always ready to help in unity building initiative.
The ceremony presided over by Mao Council president Dr S Loli was also attended by Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta and Mao-Imphal Market Coordination Committee chairman Besii Pfoze Mao as guests of honour.
Leaders of CSOs, clubs and others involved in facilitating the Mao traders ply their wares in Imphal during the initial phase were honoured with simple gifts at the event, as also those who extended help in construction of the temporary shed.
