AR DG takes part in inaugural half marathon

The Assam Rifles organised the inaugural half marathon as part of "Azadika Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations on Sunday at the Headquarters of Directorate General Assam Rifles, Laitkor Garrison in Shillong.
The half marathon commemorates 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture, achievements and also promotes the "Fit India Movement".
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the half marathon was flagged off by GOC 101 Area Lt Gen KC Panchanathan and saw an enthusiastic participation of more than 678 serving personnel and families of Assam Rifles, 101 Area, 58 GTC, ARC, Eastern Air Command and CRPF.
The run was divided into three categories of 21 km, 10 km and 2.5 km each having its own age groups.
Group captain Saikat stood first in over 51 years (21 km category) while colonel EJ Simeon came second and DGAR Lt Gen PC Nair won the third prize jointly with commander Venkatesh (retd) .
The other winners of the 21 km category as per age group included rifleman Bharat Bhushan (first), rifleman Devender (second) and sub /SKT Bishan Singh (third) in 41 to 50 age category.
Rifleman SU Visle (first), rifleman KostingDhar(second) and rifleman Francis Zimik (third) were the top three winner in 31-40 age group while rifleman Marvin, rifleman Rajesh Singh and rifleman Anil Gurung secured first, second and third position respectively in 18 to 30 age group.
Assam Rifles also thanked the sponsors of the event that includes SBI bank, YES bank and the event organiser Cyruns Sports and Wellness.
