Imphal, February 20 2022:
Terming the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a trip to give false promises and to strengthen the colonial rule, United People's Revolutionary Front of Manipur (UPRFM) has called a total shutdown in the entire state from 1 am on Tuesday till the Prime Minister leaves Imphal.
In a statement, UPRFM said that Narendra Modi has the cheapest standard of all the past Prime Ministers of India and his multiple visits to Imphal bring nothing good for the people of Manipur except for an increasingly darker future.
People have nothing to hope for from the election and PM Modi's visit since the Government of India has been suppressing the people and their rights.
Under the guise of democracy, the Gol is trying to project the image of a free state.
There is no place for the indigenous lifestyle, identity and national character in the present political system.
The Government never made any attempt to address the issues related with freedom struggle, future, AFSPA, demographic influx of non-locals, territorial integrity among others.
These issues are gifts of becoming part of the Indian Union.
Money and muscle powers are being used in the race of power.
The Indian democracy system has become a battleground for power seekers and the liberal identity of the country is losing gradually.
It is time for the people of Manipur to understand this motive and stay clear from it, the statement said.
It further informed that media, emergency and essential services will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown.
