Youth held on sextortion charge

Cybercrime police station, Manipur has arrested a 23-year old youth from Assam's Cachar district on the charge of blackmailing people by using morphed video-calling screen recording.
The arrested youth has been identified as Somorjit Singha, son of Bachan of Kachudaram in Cachar district of Assam.
He is said to be involved in sextortion of several high-profile individuals, retired government employees and youths, using the same method.
Police source said that the cybercrime PS received a complaint from a victim from Imphal stating that he became friend with the accused on Facebook, who is actually a male holding an account under the name 'Sanabi Sanabi' disguising as a woman.
They first started chatting on Facebook messenger and shared WhatsApp numbers.
The chatting advanced to video calling and later, the accused sent the victim screen recordings of their video calls with morphed image while blackmailing him with the threat of circulating the screen recording in WhatsApp groups and Facebook messenger groups.
Consequently, the cybercrime PS registered a case and during the course of investigation, they established actual identity of the accused person.
A team of cybercrime PS consisting SI Kh Rajesh, SI Gangmei Lansailung and havildar M Chinlianmang went to Cachar and nabbed the accused person from Joypur Kamranga area of Cachar district on February 16 .
The accused was produced before the CJM Court Imphal West and the court remanded him to judicial custody.
