Imphal, February 20 2022:
The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a conglomerate of different armed organsiat-ions, has boycotted the Imphal visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 22 and called a total shutdown in the entire state from 1 am till Modi's departure on the day.
In a statement, CorCom termed Modi's visit in connection with the ensuing elections as an act of continuing the decades-long occupation of Manipur.
It is not a visit to give a new taste of freedom but further the agenda of the Indian Union and to keep suppressing the people of Manipur.
Apart from him, leaders of different political parties are also visiting Imphal with the same agenda of converting the indigenous people into Hindustani, a statement of CorCom said.
The election is in no way providing the right to self-determination.
Instead, the election and governments formed through such elections have been destroying the fabric of unity, integrity, identity and human lives.
None of the election manifesto formulated by different political parties has any mention of policies and programmes to protect the identity and integrity of Manipur, as well as any policy to bring prosperity.
The public, who are longing for freedom, should not fall prey to such materialistic promises.
The statement further said that election offices of different candidates set up in different localities are becoming safe haven for abusing drugs and other intoxicants and as such the election is becoming a tool to drag the younger generations into the trap of drugs.
Elections are also the maiden ground for young adults into the world of substance abuse and as such youth of Manipur are losing their capabilities.
Since election is the only way to hold power, candidates are using every possible means including criminal activities and threatening public to win elections.
It creates a sense of animosity not only before the election but also after the elections.
Elections also make the public forget their routine activities, destroy work culture and lure them into the habit of dependence.
The election system makes the public forgo their senses of responsibility and turn their focus on cash for votes.
In short, election is another tool to destroy the spirit of Manipur and its people, it added.
CorCom then asked the public if they would welcome the Prime Minister, the leader of a government that has been suppressing the rights and freedom of Manipur.
It then called upon the public to cooperate with CorCom and support the boycott PM Modi's Imphal visit.
