32nd State Thang-Ta Championship kicks off

The 32nd edition of the State Thang-Ta Championship 2022 kicked off here at the Thang-Ta Shanglen, Yumnam Huidrom today.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Yumnam Babu Mangang, Thangsuh-anba, Sanakonung; Huidrom Premkumar Singh, president, Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur; H Ibotombi Khuman, international awardee and Loitongbam Ibungomacha Meetei, social and cultural activist as dignitaries.
In all, 436 Thang-Ta players and officials from across 26 different Thang-Ta Institutions/academies of Manipur are participating in the State level event.

Speaking as the chief guest at the occasion, Yumnam Babu Mangang said that Thang-Ta is an ancient martial art form of Manipur handed down by forefathers and expressed happiness that many Thang-Ta academies/institutions have emerged to promote and preserve the precious art form.
He however noted that only Thang-Ta lovers alone could not fully preserve and promote the art form without Government's support and urged the Government to do the needful.
8 bouts of phunaba ama for sub-junior boys were conducted on the inaugural day.
In the -21 kg competition, Hanjabam Lekhechand Sharma of Kanglei Thang-Ta Sindam Shanglen bagged gold as Longjam Tomba Meetei of Thang-Ta Maheikol, Yumnam Huidrom and Thokchom Nelson of Kanglei Thang-Ta Sindam Shang, Maklang won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Haobijam Ranendrajit Singh of Kanglei Thang-Ta Sindam Shang on the other hand won the gold medal in the U-25 kg category.
Punananda Thokchom of Anjika, Sangaiprou was able to win the silver medal as Wangkheimayum Randy of Kangleipak Royal Thang-Ta Association, Sagolband bagged the bronze.
Keisham Bikash Singh of Ibudhou Korouhanba Thang-Ta, Moidangpok claimed the U-29 kg category gold as Leo Haobijam of Kanglei Thang-Ta Sindam Shang and Chongtham Bicky of Manipur Martial Art Academy, Top bagged the silver and bronze medal respectively.
Winning gold medal in the U-33 kg competition was Thangjam Herojit Singh of Ibudhou Korouhanba Thang-Ta, Moidangpok while Kangujam Tomthinnganba Singh of Layingthou Kangba Thang-Ta, Kangmong and Ngangom Wilson of Indigenous Manipur Martial Art Academy (IMMAA) settled respectively for the silver and the bronze medal.
In the U-37 kg event, Keisham Bidyasagar of Manipur Martial Art Academy, Top; Malemnganba Yumnam of Indigenous Culture & Sports Academy (ICASA) and Waikhom Ningthingamba of Manipur Martial Art Academy emerged first, second and third.
Athokpam Punshiba of Manipur Martial Art Academy was able to fetch the U-41 kg category gold while Kshetrimayum Lanchenba of Institution of Langol Punshiba Thang-Ta, Iroishemba won the silver medal.
A Bhivhrajbrajabasi of Anjika in the meantime settled for the bronze medal in this category.
Karish Chabungbam of Thoibi Thang-Ta, Moirang earned the U-47 kg category gold beating Samjetshabam Rohen of Kangleipak Royal Thang-Ta Association in the final while Yambem Poireinganba Meitei of IMMAA bagged the bronze medal.
In the -53 kg, Mayanglambam Kemarun of Kanglei Thang-Ta Sindam Shang emerged on top beating Ningombam Kenarish of Meitei Nongsha Lallong Thang-Ta, Heigrujam in the final as Yumnam Santosh of Thang-Ta Maheikol, Yumnam Huidrom contend with the bronze medal.
