Manipur falter in NECDC interstate cricket final

Manipur suffered a 16-run defeat to Nagaland in the final of the 1st NECDC Senior Men's Interstate Friendship Tournament played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Dimapur on Monday.
Put in to bat, Nagaland set a 193-run target for Manipur in their 35 overs, losing nine wickets in the innings.
Jonathan Rongsen topscored for the hosts with 80 off 78 balls, followed by Tahmeet Rahman (36), Imliwati (22), Sede (150, Khriev-itso Kense (10 not out), Yougei (4), Nagaho Chishi (4) and Hokaito Zhimomi (4), Hem (3) and Hopongkyu Sangtam (2).For Manipur, Jotin Pheiroijam was the pick of the bowlers.
He claimed four wickets in his seven overs.
Jotin's scales included Jonathan Rongsen, Tahmeet Rahman, Imliwati and Hem.
Rajkumar Rex Singh and Bikash Singh took wicket apiece.
In their response, Manipur put up a spirited fight but fell short of the target after managing 173/8 in their 35 overs.
The state squad's task became onerous after their first four batters failed to perform.
The partnership between Md Sultan Karim (32) and Jotin Pheiroijam provided a ray of hope for Manipur but the dismissal of the former proved costly.
Jotin, who batted at No 6, was unbeaten on 54 off 59 balls but he didn't get the support he needed from the last four, resulting in their defeat.
Nagaho Chishi was the chief destroyer for Nagaland, racking up four wickets as Khrievitso Kense snapped two, and Hopongkyu Sangtam and Tahmeet Rahma bagged one each in their title triumph.
