Pact signed, ATSUM calls off stir, RIMS retracts

All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has called off its proposed 12-hour total bandh/shutdown in hill areas of the state.
The development has come after a joint meeting of the state government led by health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, ATSUM representatives led by its president Paotinthang Lupheng and general secretary SR Andria, and the RIMS authority held late Monday evening at Old secretariat here.
The joint meeting, which was also attended by TA & Hills minister Letpao Haokip, discussed the demands raised by ATSUM and the RIMS authority agreed to cancel results of the Lower Division Clerk (LDC) declared on March 3 .
Later, a memorandum of agreement was signed mentioning that RIMS authority agreed to cancel the results of the LDC Lower Division Clerk declared on March 3 and will come out with fresh results within one week with reservation norms as 3 percent for SC, 13 percent for OBC and 34 percent for ST based on the DPC already conducted.
The agreement also mentioned that RIMS authority will follow the existing rules and DoPT guidelines on the matter of recruitment to Group C and D posts in future.
In response, ATSUM agreed to keep in abeyance its total shutdown.
The charter of demands of ATSUM include nullification of the results for the appointment of LDC, appropriate action against the erring RIMS administration in accordance with the existing laws and putting on hold appointments and DPC of other staff till reservations of ST, SC and OBC is streamlined.
Constituent bodies of AT SUM like Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) and its district units, Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) and All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) along with their various constituent units extended support to ATSUM's demand as well as the proposed 12-hour total shutdown in the hill districts.
