Land transfer to non-indigenous folks banned

The State Government has now put a blanket ban on transfer of land by way of gift, sale or mortgage from an indigenous person to a non-indigenous person.
These new rules, aimed at protecting land of indigenous people under the Manipur Regulation of Sale Deed Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2023 came into effect from March 27 shows a Gazette notification.
Two new clauses inserted in the amended rules state that----
The registration of sale deed, gift or mortgage deed shall not be in contravention of any of the provisions of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873, as adopted in the State of Manipur vide Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India Gazette Notification dated 11.12.2019 and rules and guidelines issued thereunder.
No deed shall be registered for transfer of land by way of gift, sale or mortgage, from an Indigenous Person to a Non-Indigenous Person, as defined under rules or guidelines framed under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 as adopted in the State of Manipur vide Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India Gazette Notification dated 11.2.2019, further said the notification.
