89th Commemoration of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day held

The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) observed the 89th Commemoration of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day (Chuk-Thoibe/Chuk-Thoibo/Chuk-Sumei) on April 1, 2023 at Zeliangrong Union, Head Office Kakhulong, Paona Bazar.
As per a press release by Zeliangrong Union (AMN), the attendees observed two-minute silence to pay homage to the departed former leaders.
The occasion is being held in remembrance of the bold step taken to stop "Sangna Rih", the inter village feuds.
It may be noted that on April 1, 1934 the Zeliangrong people took the oath "Chuk-Thoibe/Chuk- Thoibo/Chuk-Sumei" to stand against collectively any form of influence which may harm the customary truce and brotherhood of the kindred communities Zeme, Liangmei, Rongmei/Kabui and Inpui.
K Poushinglung, Secretary Administration, ZU (AMN) delivered the keynote address while Pou Jangamlung Panmei, former President, Zeliangrong Union (AMN) was the main speaker who emphasised on unity and brotherhood among all kindred communities.
Resource person, Professor Meijinlung Kamson, former President, ZU (AMN) spoke on the genesis of Zeliangrong tribe Organization and its functioning since its inception till date.
In his speech, he dwelt on the nomenclature of the tribe and appealed to the Zeliangrong Union to name the organization in native tribe name to help in fostering unity and brotherhood.
Pou Azang Rongmei, President, ZU (AMN) while giving his presidential speech appealed to all the Zeliangrong Civil Organizations, Councils etc to come together and work for the betterment of the Zeliangrong community.
The observance was attended by leaders of RNCM Imphal Luangrian, KAMA, ZUBSA, ZU Imphal Zone, ZU Tamenglong Zone, Makuiluongdi Villagers and Zeliangrong leaders.
