Imphal, April 03 2023:
Under the joint aegis of United Youth Organisation, Langdum and Langdum Women's Welfare Association, local residents of Langdum under Keirao assembly constituency organised a sit-in demonstration on Monday demanding the government to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, Langdum Women's Welfare Association publicity secretary Hidam Kamala said that uncontrolled influx of non-locals including illegal immigrants has been threatening the survival and existence of indigenous communities in the state.
It was unfortunate that some non-resident individuals were found included in the electoral rolls and list of PMJAY beneficiaries of Keirao assembly constituency amid the burning issue, she said while urging the government to investigate the matter.
She further remarked that there are high possibilities of such situation in other areas of Langdum and they are organising the demonstration to raise the demand for updating NRC in the state.
Similar situation might be in other constituencies of the state, she said while calling upon the people to be vigilant and find out such issues for timely action.
