Imphal, April 03 2023:
Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA), Senapati District Truck Owners' Association (SDTOA), All Manipur Gorkha Drivers' & Owners' Association (AMGDOA) and Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union (SDTDU) would be meeting chief minister N Biren and forest minister Th Biswajit to bring up issues faced by the transporters due to the exploits along the national highways by unauthorised check posts and illegal transit passes by forest officials.
Announcing this during a press meet held at the office premises of SDTOA, its spokesperson Adari Mao pointed out that transporters are bringing in sand from Dimapur for the construction needs of the state.
However, the range forest office in Motbung detained a sand laden truck some days ago.
The association sought reason for the detention but the officials remain adamant while the truck is still in their custody even though it has transit pass.
On the other hand, forest officials are often exploiting the transporters, especially those carrying forest products by denying issuance of transit passes on the pretext of internet problem.
Sometimes, they even forced the drivers to wait for long hours saying that the official concerned is sleeping, he said, while urging the government to look into the matter.
