The 31st All Manipur Drama Festival 2022-23 was kicked off today at the Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium at Konung Mamang.
The 9-day drama festival was organised in connection with the golden jubilee celebration of Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA) .
The festival organised by MSKA witnessed the attendance of Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, MLA, Hiyanglam A/C and MSKA Awardee L Brajamohon Sharma as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Yumnam Radheshyam pointed out the gradual decline in popularity of theatre in the State and stated that it is the responsibility of every individual to ensure that theatre continues to flourish.

The MLA also exuded confidence that the drama festival will boost popularity and development of theatrical art.
He further mentioned the initiatives undertaken by the State Government for the advancement of art and culture and continued to say that the Chief Ministergi Artistes Singi Tengbang (CMAT) was launched with the objective of alleviating the difficulties faced by State artists and providing them with some form of support.
On top of this, the Manipur University of Culture was established to promote and preserve the culture of Manipur, he added.
Stating that without implementing a cultural policy any progress achieved in the field of culture will lack longevity, he informed that the State Government has started taking up initiatives in this regard which will be completed very soon.
The MLA further expressed hope that the drama festival will continue to be held in the years to come.
Nine theatre troupes are participating in the drama festival which is set to conclude on April 11 .
During the inaugural ceremony, a souvenir was released and a play entitled "Chahi Taret Khuntakpa" was showcased.
