Imphal, April 03 2023:
Christian preacher Takhellambam Ramananda Meitei has tendered apology for his remark against use of Tairen leaves and fire for purifying a person after attending funeral, which he made during an outreach programme organised by Sagaing Baptist Church.
In a video message seeking forgiveness for his remark, Ramananda said that he regretted creating the situation with his remark, which drew flaks from different sections of the society including titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba.
Stating that he did not mean to challenge or insult culture, tradition and religious belief of the Meetei community, he sought forgiveness from the titular king.
He further said that he made the remark on the tradition of Kom community as part of his preaching.
Unfortunately, the tradition turns out to be very similar with Meeteis, and it created a sense of insult among the members of Meetei community.
He feels regret for causing the situation, he said and added that he loves his community and never intended to insult or challenge any community or religion.
