Imphal, April 03 2023:
The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has appealed to all the communities of Manipur not to do or say anything which may hurt sentiments of each other.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, AMCO president Rev L Simon Raomai said that the entire Christian community of Manipur and the AMCO respect all the communities and never look down upon any community.
Being a secular country, every citizen of India has the right to follow the religion of his/her choice, he said.
"We, Christians respect all other religions and people of other religious faiths ought to respect us too", Rev L Simon Raomei said.
He said that the AMCO is deeply concerned with the religious antagonism which erupted after a short video clip of Takhellambam Ramananda Meitei's speech given at Sagang Bazar on March 26 went viral in social media and the sub- sequent ugly developments.
L Simon Raomei then appealed to all the people to avoid such religious antagonism in the future.
Don't harass the Christians, the AMCO president appealed.
L Simon Raomei said that if religious antagonism rises it would defeat the idea of Manipur.
The selfless struggle of the many CSOs of Manipur to safeguard the integrity of Manipur may be defeated if religious antagonism heightens, he said.
He also appealed to the State Government to take up all necessary measures so as to avert any social unrest.
He again appealed to all the communities of Manipur to refrain from doing or saying anything which may hurt the sentiments of each other.
