Govt prioritising affordable healthcare system: Dr Ranjan

A two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) on the theme 'Advances in allied healthcare sciences' organised by Dhanamanjuri Community College/DDU-KAUSHAL Kendra, DM University has begun at DM College of Science central hall on Monday.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural programme, health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan informed that CME is mandatory for medical professionals as it will help in enhancing their knowledge.
Moreover, the Ministry has issued guideline to conduct CME, he said.
While acknowledging challenges and changes in medical technology, the minister pointed out that in sync with the changes Manipur has also digitised X-ray in four districts and is planning to expand the same in every district.
Illness is inevitable, but the government's top priority is to ensure cost effective healthcare facility to the people.
As such, the government has been providing free diagnostic facility at district hospital and CHC, he pointed out.
While urging to organise such programme periodically, he stressed that students should strive to accumulate knowledge out of the programme and utilise it properly.
Stating that several ophthalmologists are outsourced under National Blindness Control Programme, Dr Ranjan maintained that it would be helpful if DM Community College introduces ophthalmology course.
As functional president of the programme, education minister Thounaojam Basantakumar said that education and health go hand in hand as there will be no progress if educated person is unhealthy.
Pointing out that 25-30 per cent of the total population is made of students and they are the future of the society, Basanta said awareness campaign to prevent students from drug abuse will be held.
While assuring that the government will try to preserve the college hall, he continued that sanitary pad dispensing machine for female students will be installed at the college.
Students led by the minister took pledge not to experiment drugs and to spread the message of no to drugs.
Minister Ranjan also inaugurated two labs and a classroom at DM Community College/DDU Kaushal Kendra.
The programme was attended by DMU VC Prof N Rajmuhon, DM College of Science principal and DMU School of Science dean Prof M Bhubaneshwari, DMU Zoology Department head and DDU KAUSHAL Kendra/DM Community College director Dr L Hem-chandra and Babina Healthcare and Hospitality Industries Pvt Ltd chairman cum managing director Dr Th Dhabali as guests of honour.
