Ice boxes handed to fishers' society

Under the aegis of Indian Council of Agriculture Research Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, ice boxes to preserve fish were handed over to Bharathimana Fisherman Development Co-operative Society on Monday.
The handing of ice boxes was attended by Council's senior scientists Dr Basudha Ch and Pitambari Devi and Institute of Co-operative Management, Guwahati senior scientist Dr Somorendro.
Speaking in this regard, Dr Basudha highlighted the importance of fish in the state and informed that fish contains protein and mineral.
As 15 per cent of the fish caught get wasted due to absence of cold storage system for increasing the shelf life, the ice boxes were distributed to the society with the belief that it will help in preventing fish from rotting.
He also urged the society to put value addition in items and produce products to enhance the economy.
