Thoubal, April 03 2023:
The functioning of many Government offices in Thoubal district have reportedly been paralyzed due to prolonged vacancy of numerous important high-ranking posts in these departments from January of this year.
The vacancies allegedly occurred due to retirement or transfer of the previous officers.
Currently, the vacancies in the district are SDC (Judicial), SDC (Revenue), SDC (Heirok), SDC (Thoubal) and District Horticulture Officer.
Aside from these, the posts of Officer in-charge and Assistant Settlement Officer are also allegedly lying vacant.
Out of twenty LDC posts required for the Thoubal Revenue Department, only 6 posts have been claimed to be filled.
Instead of transferring a new officer for the post of Assistant Settlement Officer (which is attached to Thoubal DC), all the staff and land records were shifted to the head office of Directorate of Settlement and Land Records at Lamphel and the office of the ASO at Thoubal was locked up.
This has caused immense difficulties to the villages under the jurisdiction of the forenamed office, namely, Village no 52 Pallel, Village No 44 Yaithibi Loukol, Village No 36 Sangai Yumpham, Village No 33 Khangabok, Village No 32 Athokpam, Village No 28 Thoubal Achouba, Village No 22 Kiyam Siphai, Village No 22 (A) Kiyam Siphai etc.
These villagers now have to travel to Lamphel every time they need a new patta or when they need to change land records.
Aside from this, as it is necessary to furnish one's patta when trying to procure an OBC certificate, students are faced with the inconvenience of travelling from Thoubal to Lamphel to get the certificate.
As such, the absence of important officers and other staff is posing an obstacle in the development of Thoubal district and also causing numerous inconveniences to the people of the district.
