Imphal, January 07 2023:
The authority of Langol Old Age Home on Saturday donated the body of its inmate Laikhuram Gokulchandra (69) of Yairipok Bishnunaha, who had passed away, to JNIMS authority so as to assist in the education of medical students of the institute.
In this regard, JNIMS director Prof L Deben said that this is the second body donated by the Home.
Previously, the body of one Nongthombam Tamolini (75) of Oinam Awang Leikai, Bishnupur was donated in March last year.
So far, 41 people have registered for donating their bodies to JNIMS after death.
Prof Deben continued that as MBBS students need to study the human anatomy, the institute has to procure human bodies at high prices.
However, as many people in the state started donating bodies after death, this has greatly benefitted the students, not to mention helping to save costs on buying a body, he added.
It may be mentioned here that the chairman of Langol Old Age Home and his wife along with 10 other inmates of the Home had pledged and signed an agreement as per the law to donate their bodies after death.
As part of this, Gokulchandra's body was donated to JNIMS authority on Saturday.
