New Year celebration concludes with sports meet, campfires

A campfire and a 1-day sports event marked the end of the New Year celebration at Kangpokpi Christian Church.
Events such as men's football, men's & women's volleyball, and other activities were held during the day to promote the unity of Church members and build a stronger bond among them.
Later in the evening, Church members lit a bonfire at the Church campus to mark the end of its New Year celebration and symbolize the burning of all past mistakes, wrongdoings, etc.
The bonfire also signified the promotion of a better life in the present year.
The campfire was organised by Kangpokpi Christian Khangthahte (KCK) and was participated by numerous youths of the Church and others.
Various recreational games and activities were also held as a part of the gathering while former leaders of KCK were befittingly honoured.
The participants were also engaged in cleaning the Church campus and taking down the decorations of the celebration.
A Gospel service was also held where the Church Pastor set the bonfire which was constructed from the debris and tree branches collected by the participants.
The Pastor extended his wishes for a prosperous new year to all denizens of Kangpokpi and the State.
Meanwhile, Wangkhei AC MLA, Th Arun Kumar today graced the closing ceremony of the 34th New Year Sports Meet 2023 at S Phailengkot village in Saikul Sub-division as the chief guest.
Ngamthang Kipgen, Senior Accountant, Treasury Imphal east and Kamkhomang Kipgen, S Phailengkot village chief also attended the event as presidium members.
During the event, S Phailengkot Youth Club submitted a memorandum to the MLA to build a community hall at the village.
