294th commemoration of 'Puya Meithaba' on January 15

The 294th commemoration of 'Puya Meithaba' (burning down of sacred scriptures of Manipur) will be held on the 23rd day of Wakching month of Manipuri lunar calendar which falls on January 15, 2023 .
The commemoration ceremony will be held at Kangla and Elangkhanpokpi in Kakching district organised by the International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba (ICOP) .
Addressing media persons during a press meet held in connection with the upcoming programme at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen today, ICOP Chairman RV Mingthing appealed to all to attend the said programme.
Speaking at the occasion, ICOP convenor Moirangthem Naokhomba Meetei informed that the prestigious awards namely "Maichou Ningsing Mana" and "Chingmi-Tammi Nungsi leepun Mana" will also be presented during the commemoration programme.
The above awards are presented to those individuals who have been making significant contributions towards the promotion of unity and integrity of the State and strengthening the bond of love and harmony among the indigenous communities of the State, he added.
He further informed that "Maichou Ningsing Mana" will be awarded to late Elangbam Tompok Meetei from Elangkhanpokpi Awang Leikai while "Chingmi-Tammi Nungsi leepun Mana" will be awarded to R Dominic Ahao from Ukhrul.
He continued that before the conduct of the main event, a Black Day observation of Puya Meithaba will be held on January 13 at Eternal Spring School located at Sekta in Imphal East district where the students will adorn black badges and the Seven coloured flag will be flown at half mast till January 15 .
The ICOP convenor went on to inform that the commemoration programme will commenced with Puya Mikouba ceremony in the morning at Kangla Uttra followed by the public programme at Elangkhanpokpi.
A Shumang leela based on Puya Meithaba titled "Kangleipakta 1709" will also be performed on the occasion, he added.
Presidents of prominent civil society organizations of the State were also present at the press meet.
