Imphal, January 07 2023:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council has opposed the decision of University Grants Commission (UGC) to allow foreign universities to open branches in India.
In a statement, CPI Manipur State Council asserted that allowing foreign universities to open branches in India will not only harm the country's higher education system but would also leave rights of the states over the education system to the wealthy foreigners.
The UGC's decision will harm all norms of policy of reservation and the principle of social justice and accordingly CPI will never accept the new higher education system, the statement said and termed the UGC's decision as anti-federal policy.
The new policy will harm, dilute and destroy the Indian higher education system and it will make education expensive, it said, adding the new policy will affect minorities and the poor adversely.
It also asserted that the decision is a reflection of the government's pro-rich approach and commercialisation of higher education system in the country.
