ASI suspended for shooting woman

Even as the news of a woman being shot dead by a telecom operator of Manipur police department hit headlines in the state of late, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at City police station, who shot at and critically injured a woman on the night of January 5, has been suspended from his service and also remanded in police custody for four days.
The injured woman identified as H Thajamanbi (40), daughter of H Thoiba of Sanjenbam under Lamsang police station, is undergoing treatment at the ICU of Raj Medicity.
The accused police identified as Salam Deepak was arrested by the police on the day of the incident itself along with the service pistol he used.
He was produced in the court of CJM, Imphal West on Friday and remanded in police custody till January 10 .
According to reports received from police, in his full uniform Salam Deepak entered the house of Thajamanbi who was staying in a rented house at Tera Khuriajam Leirak along with her younger brother on the night of January 5 and fired at Thajamanbi.
She suffered injuries and was rushed to Raj Medicity for treatment.
Her condition is said to be serious.
Meanwhile, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta has issued an order on Saturday suspending ASI Salam Deepak from his service.
A departmental proceeding is being contemplated against Salam Deepak Singh for his grave misconduct, the order stated.
On the other hand, Thajamanbi's father Thoiba demanded termination of service of the culprit and put him behind bars.
He said that Deepak's act of attempting to kill his daughter is unforgivable.
Deepak misled his daughter and eloped with her but never took her as his wife and kept her in a rented place.
Moreover, it was later learned that Deepak was already married and has children.
So he (Thoiba) made her stay in her own home.
However, Deepak began to continuously harass her and later she moved to a rented house in Tera along with her younger brother and helped the family financially.
It was during this time that Deepak came to the rented house around 9:30 pm, quarrelled with her brother and fired two rounds at Thajamanbi in which she suffered critical injuries, he said and appealed to all to help in ensuring punishment of the culprit in accordance to laws of the land.
