A 55-member cultural troupe of Chief Minister Indigenous Martial Arts Akademi Manipur left Imphal for New Delhi today to take part in the Republic Day on January 26.The contingent of Thang-ta artistes/athletes and officials was flagged off by Chief Minister N Biren Singh from the campus of Department of Art and Culture at Palace Compound.
There, N Biren Singh said that the incumbent Government has been working to popularise Thang-ta which is closely associated with the history of Manipur since its formation in 2017.He continued that the State now has over 100 Thang-ta institutions while classes on the martial art form have been incorporated at hill districts.
Saying that the contingent of Thang-ta artistes/athletes was sent to New Delhi to display the uniqueness and iconic traditional martial art before the world, the Chief Minister stated that the younger Manipuri generations need to learn the value and lifestyle of 'our ancestors'.
"Popularising Thang-ta will play a significant role in reviving the aged old tradition of 'our society' as the martial art promotes discipline apart from evoking patriotic spirit," N Biren Singh reasoned.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Art and Culture Commissioner M Joy and Art and Director L Keshorjit also attended the event.
