Speaking on the occasion, Wangkhemcha Shamjai remarked that mushrooming of civil society organisations in the state is a "headache" for the media, in the sense that the media often has to bear the brunt of disputes between bodies over whose news can be published or not.
There have been instances when both the government and the CSOs ignore any inconvenience suffered by the media, such as the case of 6 journalists who were shot dead by unknown miscreants.
So far, there has been no headway in these killings, he said, while appealing to all concerned to allow the media to work as independently as possible.
In his speech, FOCS president Th Manihar observed that the media houses in the state are working tirelessly for the people.
Similarly, many CSOs are working for the welfare of the people, he added.
