Imphal, January 07 2023:
The 47th foundation day of Manipur Press Club was celebrated by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) at the club here on Friday.
Babina Group of Companies chairman cum managing director Dr Thangjam Dhabali, who attended the programme as chief guest, highlighted the importance of media in a society while pointing out that it is considered as the fourth estate in a democracy.
Observing how those in the media fraternity faced several challenges, he urged the media to take lead in guiding the society towards the righteous path by disseminating the right information to the public and educating them on various regulations, their duties and responsibilities.

Dr Dhabali expressed concern over the culture of turning up late in public event, which ultimately delays the event itself.
This excessive 'time flexibility' is one of the major reasons for backwardness of the state and it becomes a drawback in association with people of other cultures or regions.
It is high time the society learn to value time and follow strict routine in every aspect of life, he said.
On the other hand, people of the state have good dressing sense and take great care of their vehicles.
However, it is unfortunate to see such well-dressed people in high-end cars randomly throwing out wastes on the road from their car windows, littering everywhere they go.
People should give up such irresponsible manners and cultivate civic sense to make the society clean and responsible, he said.
Dhabali further pointed out that there is another culture in the state where every commuter seems to be in a hurry.
In the slightest traffic jams, they begin to break traffic rules and try to get through the congestion by any means possible, which only leads to more congestion.
Ironically, some will even start to blow horns in traffic jams as if blowing horns will solve the problem.
Every road user should learn to be patient while commuting, he said.
AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai, who presided over the function, said that members of the union should take the function seriously.
January 6 has been declared a press holiday so that every member could attend the function without distraction.
Every member of the union should understand the history of the union and it is their responsibility to make the union strong so that it could face any challenges at any point of time, he said.
He urged editors to attend any meeting of the union for a strong and united resolution and also called upon the members to be united and transparent.
Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd managing director Ningombam Ibochouba and Editors' Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram also attended the event as guests of honour.
Two guestrooms of Manipur Press Club were inaugurated on the occasion while senior members and former office bearers were honoured by presenting gifts .
