150 acres of poppies destroyed in 3 days

Poppy plantations found grown in over 150 acres of land in different parts of the state were destroyed by a combined team in the last three days.
According to reports received from police, the combined team comprising Ukhrul district police, NAB, 6 MR and officials of forest department conducted drive against poppy cultivation from January 4 to 6 in different parts of Ukhrul district and destroyed poppy plantations.
The team destroyed poppy plantations spread over 30 acres on Mapithel hill range and 50 acres of poppy plantation in Sihai hill range in Khamasom.
The Litan and Ukhrul police have registered a case in this regard and they are in search of the owners of the land and the involved farmers.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Chandel district police, 8 MR and 15 AR personnel, during a drive carried out in Kholmunlen and khongtal area near Indo-Myanmar border pillar number 51 and 52 under Chakpikarong sub-division, destroyed poppy plantation found growing in around 70 acres of land.
Joupi and SajikTampak Battalions of IGAR (South) also provided prophylactic assistance for destruction of poppy cultivation in general areas between Hengshi-Joupi under Khenjoi sub-division from December 28 to 30, 2022 and in Khongtal area under Chakpikarong sub-division on January 5 and 6 respectively.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that a joint team of Chandel district police, Manipur Rifles and Assam Rifles (Joupi and Sajik Tampak Battalions) under the supervision of SP Chandel destroyed poppy cultivation over an area of approximately 215 acres in Hengshi-Joupi area and Khongtal area close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
During the destruction drive, Poppy juice (opium) approximately 2.5 kg packed in plastic polythene was recovered and about 12 huts in the poppy fields were burnt down.
