Imphal, November 01 2021:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken has remarked that BJP is the only one claiming to have brought about huge changes to the state in the last 4.5 years, not the people.
He made the remark during a reception function hosted in honour of former All Manipur Trinamool Congress, Manipur Pradesh general secretary Rajkumar Priyobatra of Wangkhei AC, who joined the Congress on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Loken contended that the people are well aware of the governance of BJP government, which is all about lip services.
Thus, the people should elect representatives who can fully carry out their responsibilities for the next 5 years, he stressed.
Asserting that the development projects taken up by the then Congress government under the leadership of CM Ibobi are immeasurable, the MPCC president said that no worker of Congress is over-indulgent in gloating about the party.
The relationship between the hills and the valley was harmonious during Congress rule.
It was only some armed groups which were the challenging the government, and not the people of the hill districts.
If there was truly a discord with the hill districts, the seven Congress MLAs would not have been elected in the last election.
Moreover, only three BJP MLAs were elected from the hill districts, he pointed out.
Furthermore, it was during Congress rule that mini secretariats were constructed in the hill districts, along with hospitals having 50-100 beds, school buildings and other infrastructure development projects.
BJP has not taken up any new project or any new scheme in the hill districts in the last 4.7 months.
As such, BJP ministers and party leaders should stop lying to the people and instead calculate how many of their MLAs will be elected in the upcoming polls.
"The people are the masters in a democracy and the elected representatives are merely its retainers.
Thus, we should not lie to the people for they are the ones raising us.
Politics means working alongside the people at all times.
The ruling government should stop advertising claims of building houses and toilets, all of which truthfully are in paper only.
Nonetheless, BJP will understand the situation they are really in with the results of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
It will no longer return to power in the state and at the centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Once it has fallen, it will not be able to get up," he asserted.
Loken then asked BJP to list at least 5 schemes out of the 100 so-called schemes launched under Modi leadership, which have been beneficial to the people.
It should stop assuming that the people would believe everything it said, he remarked.
The function was also attended by MPCC working president Y Hemoehandra, MLA Fazir Rahim, VP T Mangibabu, and general secretaries Hareshwar Goswami and Tilotama.
