Chavang Kut celebrated as 'festival of unity'

Chavang Kut, 2021, the annual post-harvest festival of Chin-Kuki-Mizo, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour under the theme 'Festival with Unity' at Khomunuom playground on Monday.
Singhat (Singngat) MLA GS Haupu, who is also chairman of MANIREDA and MTDC, Ibochaoba, managing director Bharat Infra Project Limited, and Namlalung Gangmei, SDO Singhat, attended the celebration as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Col Viplav Tripathi of 47 AR was the chief host of the event while T Zarual was the Kutpa or father of Kut.
During his speech, the chief guest expressed hope that Kut would bring unity and harmony among the Chin, Kuki and Zomi communities while Ibochaobal and Namlalun expressed their wishes that Kut would usher in unity, love, harmony and progress among the people.
Troupes of the tribes celebrating the Kut showcased spectacular cultural dances while various singers enthralled the huge crowd who turned up to take part in the celebration.
Legendary tribal singers Kumar Haumang and Jimmy Lamboi brought the gathering to their feet.
The evening was marked by a musical event called the Chavang Nite where P Tongthang Zou, special contractor; Jangkam Doungel, businessman; Dongchinkham Simte, special contractor; and Lunkhaohau Haokip, general secretary KSP were present as chief guest, guest of honour, functional president and chief host respectively.
The biggest festival of Kuki-Chin-Mizo group 'Chavang Kut' was also celebrated by performing rituals at Leishangphai village under Tousem sub division in Tamenglong district on Monday.
The festival organised by the combined youth committee comprising TYC, MLYC and LYC at Leishangphai village playground was attended by Phaitol segment executive member Hatlhing Doungel as chief guest and social worker Lalsiemlien Sitlhou as president while Goinamlong and Phaitol segment VACC chairman Marukhamang Gangmeina was guest of honour and Leisangphai village's Th Khongsai was Kut Pa.
Traditional dances and songs were performed by different cultural troops during the festival.
On behalf of Tamei MLA and forest minister Awangbow Newmai, Halthing Doungel also distributed wheel chairs to two differently abled persons.
The celebration was attended by leaders of different villages, village chiefs and leaders of several organisations.
