Conclave on 'Literature, Culture, and Society' underway

Under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, RRLF Kolkata; Department of Library and Information Science in association with Department of Ancient History & Archaeology and Rajar-shi Bhagyachandra Cultural Research Centre, Manipur University (MU) kicked off a 4-day International Conclave on "Literature, Culture, Library and Society" at Court Hall, MU on Monday.
The inaugural function was attended by Manipur University vice chancellor-in-charge Prof Elangbam Bijoykumar as chief guest School of Social Sciences dean Prof S Mangi Singh as president while Suan Duist University Council, Thailand chairperson Tanom Intar -kumnerd, Bangla Acade-my, Dhaka deputy director Sahadat Hossain Nipu and Department of Library & Information Science, Gauhati University former head Prof RK Burman were guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Elangbam Bijoykumar highlighted that there is the need to redefine and streamline the role of literacy in increasing the importance of library as a resource for knowledge.
The need to redefine all parameters of education has become more important with the arrival of New Education Policy 2022.Thus, universities should take a bigger responsibility in community development, he said.
Emphasising on the importance of libraries in conducting detailed researches, Prof Bijoykumar pointed out the need for developing library science, adding that it is the resource pool for students in learning about the past and the present of a society, including its literature and culture.
He then remarked that the Manipur University library has developed significantly over the years, and the central government has taken up many related development programmes and urged all concerned to participate in the same.
