Imphal, November 28 2022:
While alleging that some teachers of government schools neglect their duties amidst problems being faced by many schools due to shortage of teachers, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has urged the government authorities to look into the matter seriously and take stringent action against teachers who derelict their duties.
MSF vice president Hijam Roshan informed media persons on Monday that it is continuing its education campaign entitled 'Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamshi' and inspection of government schools under the campaign continues as well.
As part of the campaign, a team of MSF inspected some government schools on Monday but it was horrible to witness conditions of some schools covered by the team, he said.
According to Roshan, the MSF team went to inspect Haoreibi Awang Primary School which is under ZEO Wangoi but the school was found locked when the team reached at about 11.19am.When enquired, owner of a shop opened nearby the school campus told the MSF team that the entire teaching and non-teaching staff of the school had returned after locking the school citing some works.
The MSF team then went to inspect Konthoujam Primary School falling under Bishnupur ZEO-IV(B) and reached the school at about 11.53am.The school too was found locked with no one around, Roshan said, adding that the same thing could have done in the past too.
It was very unfortunate that teachers, who are responsible for moulding students and leading to the right path, indulged in such irresponsible act, he added.
Roshan further said that there are 6954 schools in the state as disclosed by the education minister in September this year but many schools are facing the problem of shortage of teaching staff.
Amidst shortage of teachers at many schools, some teachers fail to render their service at some schools and MSF takes the matter seriously, he said and urged the government and authority concerned to take stringent action against teachers of Haoreibi Awang Primary School and Konthoujam Primary School at the earliest.
He also appealed to ZEOs, DIs and AIs to inspect schools falling under their jurisdictions regularly.
