Anti-poaching campaign held

Bishnupur, November 28 2022:
Bishnupur Forest Division in collaboration with Thanga Higher Secondary School, UTC, Young Kwakta Organisation and Pole Star Guardian Association, Thinungei on Monday conducted an anti-poaching campaign to save migratory as well as native bird species roosting close to human settlement areas near the Loktak lake.
Speaking on the side-lines of the campaign, Bishnupur Forest Division range officer S Ratan Singh informed that the campaign has been organised under the supervision of divisional forest officer Dr Rebika Soibam Chanu and will cover different area of Moirang and Bishnupur including Toubul to Yangoi Karong and localities around the periphery of the Loktak Lake.
Cautioning that poaching and hunting of wildlife is punishable offence including imprisonment for a period of three years along with fine of Rs 25,000 under the Wild Life Protection Act, 1972, Ratan said use of poison for hunting aquatic-based birds can also pollute the water which will in turn harm human beings.
He then appealed to the public to stop killing these animals.
