Mao indigenous war games gets underway

Karong AC MLA J Kumo Sha inaugurated Lerii Kaphi, Mao indigenous war games as a part of the ongoing Sangai Festival at Pudunamei Village, today.
The programme commenced with a traditional blessing from village chief Pfosiio while Mao Council president Dr Loli Saheni conveyed greetings to the gatherings.
Leru Kaphi is an indigenous war game played during the Saleni Festival, a post paddy plantation festival normally celebrated in Mao Naga villages in July.
The chief host of the event MLA L Dikho lauded Chief Minister N Biren Singh for reaching out to the people of Manipur and striving to bring uniform development in the State.
The MLA also expressed happiness with a wrestler from the valley district winning the recently concluded State Level Indigenous Wrestling Championship held at Senapati.
Speaking as the chief guest, MLA J Kumo Sha stated that the theme of the festival, "Festival of Oneness" is very relevant as Manipur is home to different tribes and communities.
"Holding the Sangai Festival at different venues shows the commitment of the Chief Minister to strengthen the ties between the people and take Manipur to greater heights," he added.
Naga People Organization (NPO) president Solomon Arow said that the indigenous war game was included in the Sangai Festival to preserve the age-old tradition which represents the hill districts of Manipur.
Later, events such as traditional fire making, Mao traditional horn blowing, Thang-ta performances and Mao indigenous war games were held among others.
Senapati DC Mahesh Chaudhari and CO of 33 Assam Rifles Amath Mitra also attended thf programme.
