Spring water harvesting unit inaugurated

A spring water harvesting unit funded by the ICICI Foundation with the support of Central Forest Division, Forest Department under 'Sustainable Water and Forest Conservation Project' was inaugurated at Nongpok Achiba, Imphal East today.
According to a statement, Khumanthem Diana Devi, IAS, DC, Imphal East inaugurated the spring water harvesting unit in the presence of other dignitaries RK Amaijit Singh, IFS, DFO, Central Forest Division; Ng Jogendra Khumancha, ADC/ADM, Imphal East, Pumgouthang, Project Manager, ICICI Foundation; KSJ Gangte, Regional Head, ICICI Bank and Yangkhulen Baite, village leader, Nongmaijing Tera Khong.
Speaking on the occasion, Khumanthem Diana Devi acknowledged the initiatives taken up by ICICI Foundation in Manipur and spoke about the advantages of living in the hilly areas where there are abundant sources of water, quality air and less pollution.
She appealed to the people of the village to safeguard the structure and make good use of it and to conserve the forest areas.
Separately, a borewell constructed by ICICI Foundation was also inaugurated today at NSCB Awasiya Vidyalaya Chingkhei Ching, Imphal East in the presence of Khumanthem Diana Devi, DC Imphal east as the chief guest.
As a part of the inaugural function the students of NSCB Awasiya Vidyalaya presented an opening song and performed Thang-Ta.
Speaking on the occasion, Pumgouthang, Project Manager of ICICI Foundation touched upon the work done by the Foundation and added that they will try to assist the school in terms of infrastructure in the coming future.
He also talked about the importance of planting trees and enhancing life skills through different activities like kitchen garden.
M Premchandra Singh, MES, Zonal Educational Officer of Imphal East underscored the difficulties faced in availing water due to the location of the school on top of a hill.
He extended his gratitude toward the ICICI Foundation for supporting the school by constructing a bore well as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
