Pettigrew College sports, literary meet begins

Ukhrul, November 28 2022: The 54th Annual Sports & Literary Meet of Pettigrew College, Ukhrul commenced on Monday at the college campus located around 5km north of Ukhrul district headquarters.

The week-long sporting event was opened by Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, who attended the opening ceremony as chief guest, while Pettigrew College principal KA S Soreishang and former ADC Ukhrul chairman Chunglenmang Kipgen were functional president and guest of honour respectively.

MLA Ram Muivah hoisted the ceremonial flag and place-kicked a football to mark the opening of the event being held under the theme 'Ever Forward' .

The event will witness a wide range of competitions in both outdoor and indoor games including football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton and others.

The event will culminate with final showdowns on December 3 .

Altogether four teams namely Manchester United House, PSG House, Real Madrid House and Barcelona House of the college's students are taking part in various sporting competitions.

On the occasion, the college also felicitated two of its students namely Paotam Vashum and Wungreithei Lungharwo for bagging bronze medals in the 65kg and 70 kg open categories of the recently-concluded All Manipur Inter-College Best Physique championships-2022 held at Standard College, Imphal.

College principal Soreishang said at the opening ceremony that sports meet is a tradition of Pettigrew College since its inception and the tradition continues due to active support and dedication of both the faculties and students.

In his speech, Chunglenmang urged students to stay away from drugs and lead a healthy life by embracing the sporting spirit.

He also encouraged the students to set a goalin their life and labour towards the same even as they continue studies.
