Imphal, November 28 2022:
Changkhonbi Charei Phee is successfully making military uniforms and tactical gears and even exporting it to other States in North-East India and Jammu & Kashmir, said its proprietor Asem Ajitkumar Meitei.
At a stall of the Changkhonbi Charei Phee opened at Hapta Kangjeibung venue of the Manipur Sangai Festival, Ajitkumar said the industry is also providing tactical gears/uniforms to Manipur Police.
He said the industry is able to provide at least 2 percent of the tactical gears required domestically for use by security forces.
Ajitkumar said the industry is specialised in producing military tactical gears and it has been producing the Made in Manipur tagged uniforms for about 5 years.
Some of the tactical gears the industry is producing include bullet proof jackets, T-shirt, trousers etc.
The industry was instituted on September 13, 2018 and has about 25 employees.
The industry is facing challenges in procuring raw materials for the military gears.
It used to procure the raw materials from Myanmar, but due to civil crises in the neighbouring country, the industry is now procuring the materials from Jammu, Mumbai and Kolkata, he said.
He added that the shipment of the materials comes with many problems and with little knowledge of where they can get the materials, the industry is facing challenges.
Beside producing the military uniforms, Changkhonbi Charei Phee has also launched "Atinga Foundation" which is producing civil dresses such as sweat shirts, crop shirts etc.
Atinga Foundation started producing the clothing after training its weavers/tailors at the District Industries Centre Imphal East.
It was launched under the advice of the DIC General Manager, he said.
Atinga Foundation will be producing all kinds of clothing at reasonable prices to the people of the State, he added.
DIC General Manager Kabrabam Rohit Kumar also launched products of Changkhonbi Charei Phee and Atinga Foundation at Sangai Festival today.
Kabrabam Rohit Kumar said Atinga Foundation had acquired the training for apparel and garment making under the "Livelihood Business Incubator Centre" of the Ministry of MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises).
The DIC Imphal East has been sponsoring the Foundation and it will continue to support it, he added.
