Imphal, June 05 2023:
Irong Tangkhul Village .\iithority and Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) held a peace meet at Irong Tangkhul village, Kang-pokpi district on Monday, during which issues pertaining to coordination and peaceful co- existence among the in-digenous communities were discussed.
During the meeting, Irong Tangkhul VA representative Worthson Hungyo called for harmony among the indigenous communities, who share blood relationship.
He said that Irong Tangkhul village is surrounded by around 13 villages of both Meetei and Vaiphei communi-ties.
In-spite of the differences in tradition and religious belief, they have been living peaceful-ly for decades.
However, amid the ongoing crisis in the state, they regularly hear gunshots in the surroundings though they are not sure from which side the firing is from.
On Saturday, stray bullets hit a house in the village, which is very unfortunate.
Some women and children have even fled home out of fear.
Though they are not sure from which side the shots were fired, it created a sense of insecurity among the villagers, he said.
Recalling the peaceful co-existence and cordial re-lationship among the com-munities in the past, Worthson Hungyo called for restoring the relationship and peace while controlling emotions.
Meanwhile, FOCS presi-dent Manihar said that some elements are trying to drive put wedge between Meetei and Tangkhul as well as other Naga communities, and called for remaining alert from such propaganda.
While pointing out that it would be wrong to put the blame on Meetei alone for the prevailing situation, he said Meeteis never start vio-lence but it's an undeniable fact in the present context that they are involved in counter offensives.
He also called upon the in-digenous communities to un-derstand the intention of divi-sive elements and stay united.
Meanwhile, in continuation of its series of meeting with indigenous hill tribes, Feder-ation of Haomee (FoH) con-vened a meeting at Kongleiram Tangkhul village, Kangpokpi district on Sunday and resolved to live harmoniously.
In a release, FoH informed that the meeting was attended by village chief Aleng, FoH president Sapamcha Jadumani and vice president Dr K Heera Kabui as members of the dais.
The meeting minutely discussed about the roles to be played byMeetei and Tangkhul communities living at Khuthak and Khukha in connection with the present conflict situation.
It also highlighted the need to be aware of the hatred being spread to disrupt the unity among the indigenous commu-nities and stressed the need for timely and periodical communication.
