World Environment Day celebrated

College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba, today celebrated World Environment Day at Central Farm in Lamphelpat under the theme, "Beat Plastic Pollution" .
It was attended by CAU, COA, Dean, Prof Indira Sarangthem; College of Food Technology, Dean, Dr Ng Iboyaima; faculty members and other officials.
As part of the observance, about 300 tree saplings were planted today in the surrounding area of Central Farm, Lamphelpat.
In line with the observance of World Environment Day, a painting competition was conducted today at the relief camp opened in Akampat Ideal Girls College, Imphal East for students from Classes VI-X .
Prizes and simple gifts were also presented to the winners of the painting competition organised by League Of Women.

Meanwhile, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Node Meghalaya, also celebrated World Environment Day 2023 under the theme, "Cleanliness drive: an approach for Solution to Plastic Pollution" .
The campus was cleaned and tree saplings were planted with the initiative of a greener and cleaner institutional campus, said a release issued by IBSD.
During the event, Dr Sushil Chaudhary, Dr Bhaskar Das, Dr Evanylla Kharlyngdoh, Dr Neeta Pathaw and Dr Sunil S Thorat expressed their views on the need and relevance of celebrating such days.
Similar events were also organised at IBSD head office in Imphal, regional centre at Gangtok and the two nodes, each at Shillong and Aizawl.
It may be mentioned that IBSD has been carrying out various activities to sensitize the people about cleaner environment and plastic free world under the guidance of Director, IBSD, Prof Pulok K Mukherjee to promote cleaner environment and awareness.
