Imphal, June 05 2023:
Veteran politician Okram Joy has underscored the urgent need for the security forces to flush out all the narco-terrorists or Kuki militants who have been occupying certain areas of the State in the wake of the violent crisis besieging the State.
Speaking to media persons at his Kakwa Huidrom Leikai residence today, O Joy remarked that arson, killing and all kinds of violence have been going on unabated even after a large number of security forces were flown in from outside the State, the Army Chief had visited the State and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had made a direct assessment of the situation.
The large number of security forces flown in so far are still unable to check the offensive launched by Kuki militants or narco-terrorists.
They have been acting as mute spectators to the carnage unleashed by the narco-terrorists, he said.
Left with no other option, the innocent civilians, instead of trying to protect their homes and properties, have been fighting against the external aggressors who have been threatening the integrity of India and Manipur.
Civilians fighting against a large group of well-trained militants after snatching weapons from the security forces is something very rare in the history of the world, Joy remarked.
The Government of India's inaction in the face of the narco-terrorism unleashed by Kuki militants cannot be justified, he said.
He then appealed to all concerned to bring a solution at the earliest through dialogue between the two parties.
Condemning the demand raised by the 10 Kuki MLAs for a separate administration, Joy pointed out that the SoO pact was signed to end militancy and bring peace without disturbing the integrity of Manipur.
He then emphasised the growing need to review the SoO ground rules and abrogate the same, if necessary.
Pointing out that there are only three Judges at Manipur High Court while it should have five, Joy said that he had submitted a memorandum to the Governor and the Ministry of Law and Justice to fill up the two vacant posts of Judge.
Against the 60 Assembly seats of Manipur, 36 election petitions are still pending.
"In response to my memorandum to fill up the two vacant posts of Judge, the Ministry of Law and Justice replied that no proposal was received to fill the posts", Joy said.
Highlighting the necessity of strengthening the judiciary, O Joy appealed to all concerned to fill up the vacant posts of Judge at the earliest.
