3 killed in attack at Kangchup Chingkhong

At least three civilians were killed while three others sustained bullet injuries when well armed Kuki militants attacked Kangchup Chingkhong village using sophisticated weapons early this morning.
According to the local villagers, heavily armed Kuki militants opened fire indiscriminately at the villagers of Kangchup Chingkhong from the nearby hill this morning.
The villagers retaliated using single and double barrel guns.
Soon after, a team of State forces rushed to the site resulting in a heavy gun fight with the Kuki militants for some hours.
Three Meitei civilians were killed in the gun battle.
They sustained fatal bullet injuries fired from sophisticated weapons and snipers by the Kuki militants.
Three other civilians also sustained bullet injuries and they were evacuated to RIMS Hospital and admitted in different wards of the hospital.
The three deceased have been identified as Angom Bungo alias Bobo (50) of Phayeng Khanaram Awang Leikai, Angom Rakesh (42) of Phayeng Sabal Leikai and Khundrakpam Nickel (22) of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai, and their bodies have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary.
On the other hand, Thounaojam Rajkumar (21) s/o Sanjitkumar of Sugnu Awang leikai who was found lying with bullet injuries in the thick bushes yesterday by security personnel and locals of Sugnu and Serou has been admitted at RIMS Hospital for treatment.
According to sources, Rajkumar had sustained bullet injuries on May 28 during the deadly attack launched by Kuki militants upon the villagers of Serou and Sugnu.
He was evacuated from the spot yesterday and admitted to Jeevan Hospital, Kakching before being shifted to RIMS hospital for further treatment.
Five injured at Serou : At least five persons have been injured and one is suspected to have been killed in another offensive launched by Kuki militants in Serou area of Kakching district today.
According to information culled from the spot, four persons sustained injuries while another is suspected to have been killed when Kuki militants who were taking positions at Serou Awang Leikai opened fire.
The injured victims were given first aid at Jivan Hospital and Kakching Khunou PHC.
On the other hand, another individual sustained injuries when a bomb planted by Kuki militants exploded at Singtam area.
The injured victim has been evacuated to Imphal but other details could not be collected till the time of filing this report.
After Kuki militants who were camping at Nazareth village were driven away yesterday, gun fight was continued in the Thingkhangphai area today, sources said.
