Imphal, June 05 2023:
Women folk of Chingamakha Ningthoujam leikai, Yanglem Leikai and Maisnam Leikai today staged a sit-in protest at Chingmakha Ningthoujam Leikai demanding immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militant groups and implementation of NRC in Manipur.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, a protestor Sanjenbam Chalchalkumari shared that many people belonging to the Meetei community have been displaced and are taking shelter at various relief camps after their houses were torched and vandalised by armed Kuki militants.
She stated that the present situation in Manipur is not an ethnic conflict between two communities but a pre-planned & well orchestrated violence carried out by some individuals/ groups with vested interest and political agenda.

She also raised questions over the link between the attacks carried out by Kuki militants with sophisticated weapons and the demand for separate administration by the 10 MLAs.
She appealed to the Central & State Government to take immediate action to protect innocent civilians from the atrocities of Kuki militants under SoO.
She further urged the Union Home Minister to give strong directives to Assam Rifles to carry out their duties honestly and protect the lives & properties of the people without any bias or taking sides.
Placards with slogans such as, "Go back Assam Rifles", "Remove SoO", "Save our life from Kuki terrorists", "No separate administration in Manipur", "Implement NRC", "Safeguard Manipur's integrity", etc were displayed at the protest.
Similarly, a sit-in protest was also staged today in front of JNIMS, Porompat demanding the removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur, cancellation of SoO with Kuki militants and implementation of NRC.
