Imphal, June 05 2023:
Joining the call raised by different sections of the society for withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Ch Chidananda too has demanded removal of AR from all vulnerable areas of the State.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chidananda said that the Central forces have been contributing hugely to bring peace and normalcy in the State.
"We highly acknowledge and appreciate their efforts.
But unfortunately, among the Central forces, the Assam Rifles has been apparently not performing their duty sincerely as expected", reads the letter.
It is very evident from the action of a team of 37 Assam Rifles led by its Commanding Officer which took place a couple of days ago at Sugnu police station, it added.
As a result of their action, people have lost faith in them and have been protesting against their unethical actions.
All highways are blocked to stop them.
It is a matter of concern that people might lose trust in other Central forces also because of the action of the Assam Rifles, Chidananda wrote to the Prime Minister.
He then appealed to the Prime Minister for an overall review of the responsibilities entrusted to the Assam Rifles in urgent manner and also to remove all the AR troops deployed in the vulnerable areas of the State.
It will be a good change if neutral Central/State forces are deployed in the vulnerable and peripheral areas of Manipur valley adjoining hill ranges in the present chaotic situation instead of the Assam Rifles, Chidananda said.
The BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president further urged the Prime Minister to take stringent action against the Kuki militants who have been violating SoO (Suspension of Operation) ground rules.
