Elderly Nepali man hurt in Sekmai attack

Imphal, June 05 2023:
A member of the Nepali community suf-fered gun-shot wound in an attack by suspected Kuki militants at a location near Sekmai river between Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts.
The injured person has been identified as Dambarmani Bhataria (60) of Kanglatong - bi Hatikhowa.
According to a report, Kuki militants had been firing endless rounds on Meitei village and farms nearby after Sunday midnight.
Manipur police commando and other state forces also retaliated and the gunfight continued till Monday afternoon.
Dabarmani was struck by one of the bullets fired the Kuki militants on the right side of his back which then exited through the right side of the abdomen.
He was immediately taken to a hospital in Imphal for treatment.
On the other hand, while the state forces and the local volunteers were taking on the militants in Sekmai, 2-3 mortar shells were fired from a nearby camp of a para-military force.
However, no injuries were reported and the gunfight between continued between the state forces and the Kuki militants.
