Six injured, one feared killed in ambush

Kakching, June 05 2023:
In fresh attacks by suspected Kuki militants in Se-rou area from Sunday midnight till Monday evening, at least six persons including a woman and a BSF jawan suffered injuries while one civilian is feared killed.
Sources said that six residents of Serou entered Serou Mamang Leikai to check their burnt hous-es in a Maruti Gypsy on Monday around 5 pm.
However, they were ambushed by Kuki militants using sophisticated assault rifles and pipe gun bomb in Serou Mamang Leikai area.
One of them es-caped the ambush unscathed while the remaining five came under heavy fire from the Kuki militants who were hiding amid the charred ruins.
Out of the remaining five, four managed to escape with multiple injuries.
The injured persons have been identified as Yumlembam Korou (26) son of Y Manao of Serou Mamang Leikai (gunshot wound on legs and hit by bomb shrapnel on back & head); Kshet-rimayum Okendro (31)son of late Chandramohon of Serou Mamang Leikai (hit by bomb shrapnel on head); Soibam Johny (27) son of S Monbi of Wangjing Hodamba Mamang Leikai (gunshot wound on thigh); and Salam Ramo (23) son of Salam Naobicha, pradhan of Serou GP (gunshot wound on right leg) .
On the other hand, the fifth victim, Laish-ram Binod (26) son of L Jane of Wangjing Hodamba Awang Leikai, was left behind as he could not run.
The Kuki militants also torched the Gypsy vehicles.
Local people fear that Binod might be killed by the militants.
The four injured persons were rushed to Divan Hospital Kakching from where they were further referred to Little Clinic, Imphal.
Earlier on Sunday around 11.30 pm, Kuki militants attacked security camp of state force and BSF at Practical High School Se-rou, in which a civilian volunteer and a BSF jawan on duty were injured.
The civilian volunteer, Moirangthem Nungshitombi (29) daughter of Raju of Sugnu Makha Leikai, is one among other local volunteers, who are helping the security personnel in preparing meals.
She was hit by a bullet on both legs.
The injured BSF jawan has been identified as Manga Ram (46) from Jammu and Kash-mir.
He is a jawan of 170 battalion BSF's A company headquartered at Koirengei.
A bullet grazed his chest.
