Imphal, March 08 2022:
In connection with the celebration of International Women's Day, State Health Society, NHM and Directorate of Family Welfare Services honoured Manipuri women Covid-19 vaccination champions at Family Welfare Directorate conference hall located at BT Road here on Tuesday.
During the observance, which was organised by John Snow India Private Limited (JS1PL) and supported by USAID Momentum Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity Project, State Mission director Dr N Shyamjai traced the history of the observance of International Women Day.
Stating that the responsibility of women in the society is vital, Shyamjai said that they should be respected as a developed state could not be brought without the participation of women.
Women doctors and officials took huge role in fighting Covid-19 pandemic and they went to remote areas and worked for vaccine advocacy same as their male counterparts.
Pointing out that the vaccination rate is still low in hill areas but comparatively high in valley, Shyamjai maintained that the massive target set by the ministry is also one of the reasons for the failure of ensuring cent per cent vaccination in the state.
The women vaccination champions who were honoured at state level during the function are State Nodal Officer, IEC NHM Dr RK Rosie, RKSK NHM SNO Dr Jubilee Wahengbam, NHM state BCC/IEC consultant Kiranmala Thangjam, NHM State Adolescent Health consultant Philazan Shimray, Imphal East CMO Dr L Indira, Thou -bal District Immunization officer Dr Ksh Memcha.
Chandel District Immunization officer Dr Lakshmi Thumlip and CMO Pool Imphal East medical officer Dr Ngairangbam Bembem.
